WPS Weekly Update

Sky Blue advanced to the WPS semi-finals with 2-1 exciting victory over the Washington Freedom this past Saturday. After being defeated 3-1 by the Freedom just one week earlier, Sky Blue shocked the Freedom with an impressive performance in the heat and both of their goals being scored by players off the bench.  Christie Rampone, currently player/coach of Sky Blue, decided to rest Natasha Kai  and bring her off the bench in the second half due to her struggle with shoulder injury.  In the 55th minute, just 45 seconds after entering the game, Kai buried the first goal of the game for Sky Blue.  Although the Freedom got an equalizer shortly thereafter, Sky Blue’s second half substitute Francielle ended the Freedom’s playoff journey with a game-winning goal in the 84th minute.

Sky Blue FC will take on St. Louis Athletica tomorrow night in the WPS Super-Semifinal at 7pm to see who will advance to the WPS Inaugural Championship Game!
