Our second session was on the grass field at Chestnut Hill College which was a big difference from the first session’s hot turf at Plymouth Whitemarsh! We started out with Philadelphia Independence Assistant Coach Staci Wilson’s dynamic warm-up and given the day’s humidity, we were sweating within minutes. The keepers left the warm-up early with volunteer goalie coach, Paul Royal, so we could get a more goalie specific warm-up prior to joining the field players for the scrimmage. We then met back up with the field players to play in short-sided 7-v-7’s. We were separated in three teams where winners stayed on the field. After adjusting to the pace of the ball in the grass, the momentum and pace of the game sped up. All in all it was a good session.
After the session, we all met up inside for a nice little dinner in one of the common rooms. It was great catching up with all of the girls after finishing day one of training. We are now all just hanging out in the dorms enjoying the down time. Luckily my roommate Alicia Hall brought a cooler stocked with Arizona Iced Tea. We clearly need that to stay hydrated. I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s session, especially the evening game when we will scrimmage each other.
